We are offering our original score for use by any not-for-profit musical groups that would like to host a screening of Eisenstein’s 1925 film Battleship Potemkin for its centenary at the end of this year.
The score will be available in the following formats, to suit various learning styles and approaches:
Traditional stave notation
A visual representation, which is currently being commissioned
Midi sound files for each instrument part
An accompanying description of our approach to the score and how you might adapt it for your ensemble
We wish to use this centenary as an opportunity to create new connections around the world, particularly in light of the current situation in the land where the film’s most famous scene is set - The Odessa Steps. As such, we are offering our score at no cost, in return for your acknowledgement of our authorship, whenever you play the music or talk about your performance of it.
The Pit Orchestra’s ethos has always been that anyone who wants to play or sing with us will be facilitated to do so, and thanks to our funding we now have the opportunity to extend that to anyone who wants to be part of what we do, anywhere in the world, by sharing our score.
While our score is ‘written’, in the sense of it being what we will perform in December, we want to invite and encourage you to adapt it for varying abilities, and to change the instrumentation to suit your ensemble.
If this sounds interesting and you would like to register your interest in receiving a copy of the score (available from beginning of August 2025), email us at the.pit.orchestra@gmail.com
